The students, faculty and staff of the Asian College of Journalism record with deep regret the passing away of Mr. Nirmal Shekar, Senior Sports Journalist and Adjunct Faculty with the ACJ on February 1, 2017.
Tributes were paid to him by his colleagues at ACJ and the students in a condolence meeting held at 10 a.m. on February 2nd 2017 at the College.
Mr. Sashi Kumar, Chairman, Asian College of Journalism has recorded his tribute as follows:
Shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Nirmal Shekhar has suddenly left us. That ready smile and spring in the step looked timeless. He was a constant friend of ACJ and a big draw with the students. His sports elective was much sought after. I remember sitting in on admission interview panels at the college when we'd ask candidates why they chose to study at ACJ. And candidate after candidate would say, because Nirmal Shekhar is teaching there. He was the byword of sports journalism in India. The enduring sport, caught unawares, it seems, at the crease and stumped out of his innings. We will miss him.
